Messaging Terms

These terms and conditions (the "Messaging Terms") govern the messaging service (the "Service") operated by Thread Inc. ("Thread," "we," "us," or "our") for MaXi, our AI-powered personal finance assistant. MaXi communicates with you over Apple iMessage. These Messaging Terms are part of, and incorporated into, our Terms of Service. Your use of the Service constitutes your agreement to these Messaging Terms.
When you message MaXi, you are interacting with an automated AI assistant, not a human.
1. The MaXi Messaging Program
Messaging is central to how MaXi works. We send two kinds of messages:
Responses to messages and questions you send MaXi; and
Proactive, automated alerts that MaXi sends on its own when it detects something it thinks you should know. These proactive alerts may include — but are not limited to — a possible bill split, a subscription price change, an unusual charge, a recurring-charge spike, or a spending summary.
2. Consent and Opt-In
How you opt in. You start MaXi by tapping a "Text MaXi" link on our website and sending a message to begin. Before you do, we show you a notice that, by texting, you agree to receive recurring automated messages, including proactive alerts. By sending that first message, you give your express consent to receive both (a) responses to messages you send MaXi and (b) automated, proactive messages from MaXi, at the mobile number you use. When you start, MaXi confirms your enrollment in its first reply. We keep a record of your consent.
Promotional messages. If we ever send a message that markets paid features, upgrades, or third-party products or services, we will do so only with your separate express written consent, and that consent is not a condition of using or purchasing the Service.
3. Message Frequency
Message frequency varies and depends on your financial activity and notification settings. You may receive messages relating to, for example: new transactions or unusual charges, budget pacing and reminders, subscription and bill changes, spending summaries, and account notifications. You can adjust or mute categories of proactive messages in your settings at any time.
4. Opt-Out and Help
Reply STOP to any message you receive from us to stop receiving messages. You may also opt out by emailing privacy@usethread.io. After you opt out, we will send one final confirmation message and will not resume the Service unless you opt in again. Opting out of messaging may limit core functionality, since MaXi communicates primarily through messages.

5. Delivery and Limitations
MaXi delivers messages through Apple iMessage. Message delivery and timing depend on Apple, your network connection, and your device, and are outside our control; we do not guarantee that any message will be delivered or delivered on time. Data rates may apply depending on your mobile plan. Supported delivery methods may change.
6. Privacy
Your phone number and message content are used as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We do use service providers to operate MaXi (for example, to deliver messages), as described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Changes to These Messaging Terms
Thread reserves the right to modify or otherwise update these Messaging Terms with or without notice to you. Changes to the Messaging Terms will be published with an updated effective date.
